The Council aims to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

On Tuesday, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama accepted U.S. President Donald Trump’s invitation to join the Peace Council to oversee the 20-point plan for Gaza.

He stated that it is “a privilege and an honor” to participate in this joint effort and reaffirmed Albania’s support for the United States in promoting “global peace and security.”

The Albanian leader directly informed Trump of his country’s willingness to be a founding member of the Council, which aims to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, following a genocide that has left more than 71,500 dead in Gaza.

However, human rights defenders warn that Trump’s Peace Council could become a parallel entity to the United Nations (UN) and reinforce Washington’s interests in international conflicts.

The Trump-chaired board will include an executive committee comprised of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Gaza’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, Apollo Global Management President Marc Rowan, Trump’s Advisor Roberto Gabriel, and World Bank President Ajay Banga.

Bloomberg and The Atlantic reported that countries wishing to join the Council will have to pay a US$1 billion membership fee. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu questioned the composition of the Council, arguing that it contradicts his government’s official policy regarding Gaza.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin confirmed that Trump invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to join the Council. Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov indicated that Moscow is reviewing the details and hopes to clarify any doubts with Washington.
