The United Nations has warned that despite Israel permitting aid into Gaza two days ago, Palestinians have yet to receive essential supplies due to delays caused by new Israeli security clearance procedures.
UN officials have described the process as “long, complex, complicated, and dangerous.”
Gaza has been under a total blockade since March, preventing food, medicine, and other crucial humanitarian aid from reaching millions of trapped residents.
The UN humanitarian agency reported that only 100 aid trucks have received approval under Israel’s new distribution scheme—a sharp decrease from the 600 trucks per day that entered during the last ceasefire.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has defended the blockade, stating that he will only allow “minimal” aid into Gaza, citing pressure from the US and allied nations that criticized the devastating starvation crisis.
