Alicia Alonso, Cuban prima ballerina assoluta — a title awarded to the most notable of female ballet dancers — Thursday presented the program of the XXIV Havana International Ballet Festival, which will take place at the national theater, the Mella theater and the Karl Marx forum from October 28 to November 7.
Companies from France, Switzerland, United States, Argentina and Cuba will perform classic and contemporary pieces for the Cuban public this year.
One of the most awaited performances of the festival is the Hispanic Ballet of New York's performance, for the first time in Cuba.
Other very special performance for the Cuban population is the one of Xiomara Reyes, the Cuban ballet dancer for the American Ballet Theater (ABT), who returns to Cuban stages to perform along with the National Cuban Ballet.
“This time I will dance at Havana festival a piece called 'Great Galloping Gottschaik', and along the National Cuban Ballet, the piece called 'Coppelia', which is one of the greatest classics of the company,” said Reyes.
The first edition of the festival was in 1960 and since then companies from more than 50 countries have performed at it.
