Mexican President-Elect Claudia Sheinbaum Announces Home Doctor Health Program for Seniors

The president-elect of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced on Sunday that during her government (2024-2030), which begins on October 1, there will be a new health program for older adults that will bring medical care and medicines to the beneficiaries’ homes.

The program is called “Today for you tomorrow for us” and aims for health professionals to attend the homes of the elderly.

“Now we’re going to take doctors and nurses to each of your homes,” Sheinbaum said as he announced the program.

“We are going to take your health home, so that you can talk to the doctors, take your exams and also bring you, if necessary, free medicines to your home. We discussed it with the president and we will name him ‘Today for you, tomorrow for us’,” he added.

We are going to strengthen the pension for the well-being of the elderly with the program “Today for you, tomorrow for us”, which means bringing health to the home of each elderly person. Free medical visits and medications.

The future president, who accompanied the current president Andrés Manuel López Obrador in the supervision of the Pensions for Welfare program in the state of Querétaro, center of the country, indicated that the plan is to guarantee medical care in the homes of the elderly, as well as free medicines.

Meanwhile, López Obrador remarked that the program “that is something very important, the most human that can be. Imagine that every week, every 15 days, they knock on the door and the doctor comes to take the pressure and see how the older adult is (healthy)”.

In his future government, Sheinbaum has said that he will maintain welfare programs, such as the pension for older adults, scholarships for students, among others, promoted by López Obrador in his government, of December 1, 2018 and that it will end on September 30, 2024.
