Peskov reaffirmed that the bloc seeks cooperation and stability, not confrontation.

On Wednesday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov denied statements by U.S. President Donald Trump claiming that countries are leaving BRICS, an economic cooperation group initially formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

“As for all countries supposedly withdrawing from BRICS, I honestly have no such information,” Peskov said during his daily telephone press briefing.

Earlier, during a meeting Tuesday with Argentine President Javier Milei, Trump said that “everyone is pulling out of BRICS” due to fears of U.S. sanctions, describing the bloc as “an attack on the dollar.”

Regarding Trump’s remarks, Peskov said BRICS has never planned anything against third countries or their currencies.

“It is a group of states that share a common vision of mutual cooperation for the benefit of their peoples and for the prosperity, stability and predictability of the continents where they are located,” the Kremlin spokesperson said.

In early September, during a virtual meeting among BRICS member countries, Brazilian President Lula da Silva proposed to refound the global free trade system in response to the U.S. protectionism.

His proposal was supported by representatives of BRICS countries, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi.
