Through a statement, the Ministry of Health announced that the Regional Directorate of Health (Diresa) has taken this decision with the aim of intensifying epidemiological surveillance and prevention actions in the region of Puno.

“As soon as the outbreak started in Bolivia, Diresa reinforced active surveillance, as well as monitoring and vaccination at entry points and health facilities, so that the epidemiological alert seeks to give a greater impetus not only in border areas but throughout the region.”, indicated the message.

According to figures from the Ministry of Health and Sports of Bolivia, as of July 17, this country reports 125 cases of measles, 104 in Santa Cruz, 10 in La Paz, 4 in Potosí, 3 in Beni, 2 in Chuquisaca, 1 in Oruro and 1 in Pando.

Peruvian health authorities urge the population, especially those returning from Bolivia, to watch for symptoms of fever, skin rashes or respiratory problems. 44,750 doses of measles vaccines have been distributed to health centres in Puno to ensure child vaccination and prevent outbreaks.

The Ministry reminded the population that the vaccine is free, safe and effective; it is applied in two doses, the first at 12 months and the second at 18 months.

Likewise, Diresa reported that six vaccination points have been established in areas bordering Bolivia: in Tilali, in the province of Moho; in Kasani, Anapia and Tinicachi, in the province of Yunguyo and in Carancas, in the province of Chucuito.
