Danger Remains in Hurricane Florence's Aftermath

Over the weekend, the tropical storm has grown to a Category 1 hurricane, hurtling towards northwestern Mexico with a wind speed of 120 km per hour, the National Hurricane Center reports.

The hurricane center said Tuesday morning, "Rapid strengthening is forecast to continue through tonight. Afterward, strengthening should continue at a slower rate through Friday," the hurricane center said Tuesday morning.

“Swells generated by Rosa will affect portions of the coast of southwestern Mexico and the southern Baja California Peninsula late this week and over the weekend,” the center said.

Just 770 km from the shore, meteorologists caution residents to prepare for an onslaught of “very strong to intense” storms in Nayarit, Jalisco, Michoacan, and Colima with intervals of rain showers in Baja California Sur.

"These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions," the hurricane center said.

According to weather officials, past downfalls put the region at high risk for landslides and flooding. Citizens are advised to stay informed on the storm’s progress. Some speculation predicts a shift to the northwest by Saturday morning.
