Despite the ultra-national and liberal party’s efforts to support the self-proclaimed 'president' of Venezuela, the votes did not exceed the 148 suffrages.
The National Executive in Spain rejected a motion to acknowledge Juan Guaido as the leader of Venezuela on Tuesday. The legal request faced the opposition of 190 parliamentary officials.

The left-wing parties, such as Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE) and Unidas Podemos, expressed their rejection of the motion, arguing that political parties like VOX, Ciudadanos, Foro Asturias and Navarra Suma, are using Venezuela’s issues to erode the National Executive.
As the PSOE deputy Héctor Gómez indicated, these political attempts “are only about attacks. I repeat what I´ve said before. (There´s ) Not a single action to solve directly the serious crisis that Venezuela suffers from."

Despite the ultra-national and liberal party’s efforts to support Guaido, the votes did not exceed the 148 needed to pass. With this decision, Spain confirms its political respect for the constitutionally and integrity of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
This new stance subverts what Spain showed more than a year ago when Guaido made his announcement as the self-proclaimed leader.
During his January tour in North America and Europe, Guaidó visited Spain but wasn't received by President Pedro Sánchez. Instead, the Spain Foreign Minister Arrancha González saluted him and referred to him as “opposition leader”.
