Right-wing Politicians in Bolivia, Venezuela Fawning Over Bolsonaro Win

After right-wing Latin American governments congratulated Jair Bolsonaro on his presidential win Sunday, the opposition out of Venezuela and Bolivia are doing the same.

Venezuelan right-wing leader Lilian Tintori tweeted a “congratulations” Sunday night “to the elected president of Brazil @jairbolsonaro.”

She added: “We wish you success. We hope that your government will contribute to promoting peace and freedom in all the countries of the region, and the rescue of democracy in Venezuela.” Tintori is the wife of Leopoldo Lopez, a right-wing opposition politician who led the attempts to overthrow both Venezuelan presidents, Hugo Chavez in 2002 and Nicolas Maduro in 2014.

Opposition politician from Come Venezuela also congratulated the people of Brazil for “their new President.” She added, “We Venezuelans know that today, more than ever, we count on Brazil in our struggle for democracy and freedom!”

Out of Bolivia, opposition to leftist President Evo Morales is also congratulating Bolsonaro.

The right-wing Las Calles (The Streets) movement called Sunday’s election: “A decisive day for Brazil and the whole of America.” On its Twitter feed, Las Calles said leftists in Brazil and Bolivia are “nervous” about the win and the alliances that have already been developed with Bolsonaro the candidate.

“Here is the reason why the Sao Paulo Forum and its minions in Bolivia are nervous and attack Las Calles Bolivia,” linking to a video showing a leader of Las Calles talking with Bolsonaro several months ago.

Former vice president and now a candidate against Morales, Victor Hugo Cardenas (1993-1997) tweeted: "Brazilian people ruled: Bolsonaro Pdte! My respect for his wisdom, his democratic lucidity, his judicial institutions and his ability to solve problems through his free and informed vote. God bless Brazil and its new government!"

Cardenas is a leader of Bolivia's 21F movement attempting to prevent President Morales from running for a fourth term.
