Argentinian President Alberto Fernandez stressed last week the need to legalize abortion.

Daughter of former Argentinian president and current Vice President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner expressed her support to the social feminist movement 'Green Scarves', that advocates and claims safe, free and legal abortions.

On her Instagram account, Florencia Kirchner posted a selfie holding a tree leaf with the phrase “legal abortion” that also marks a poem of the black social activist June Jordan.

“Legal, safe and free abortion (…) sexual education in all the schools! Now that we have the Health Ministry back (…) now that talking about rights extension is not a utopia. Now that we said never again to neoliberalism,” Kirchner said from Cuba, where she resides since February of 2019 for health reasons.

Argentinian President Alberto Fernandez stressed last week the need to legalize abortion in this nation as a fierce debate over a bill he plans to introduce in parliament is dividing the country.

"As I have already said a thousand times, it must be decriminalized and legalized so that all women have access to public health and receive adequate care," he added after recalling that criminalizing it as it is today forces women to do it clandestinely, generating an extreme risk for their health.

The president denounced the "hypocrisy of Argentinian society," referring to the protest the church has called for on March 8, since women still aborted no matter how legal or illegal was the practice.
