Cuba is going through a hard situation in the energy sector, with breakdowns in several thermal power plants and daily deficits in generation.
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Friday assessed advances in the strategy to recover the national power grid, during a visit to the Antonio Maceo Thermal Power Plant (CTE, in Spanish).

In conversation with the plant's workers, the Cuban leader praised the employees´ hard work, which focuses on sustaining the present demand and completing the scheduled maintenance of the units in operation.
According to the Presidency's official Twitter account, the inclusion of Unit-6 is scheduled for Saturday, June 18, with which the Santiago de Cuba power station must bring up its generation to 244 Mwh, 64% of installed capacity. At present, the thermal power plant, also known as Renté, is producing 187 MWh, in other words, 49% of its capacity.

Díaz-Canel noted that the inclusion of this unit is the first action to recover the national grid. Cuba is going through a hard situation in the energy sector, with breakdowns in several thermal power plants and daily deficits in generation.
On Thursday, Diaz-Canel showed up on national television, reporting on the recovery work and condemning the economic, commercial and financial U.S. blockade that hinders Cuba´s access to energy markets.
However, the president emphasized that his country always finds pathways to solve these shortcomings, and reported on an agreement that will allow several investments, which will provide more stability to the national grid.
