The root cause of the current geopolitical crisis stems from the West's desire for a unipolar world, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.
The Russian diplomat made the remarks at a press conference on Wednesday following a meeting with his counterpart from Ethiopia, Demeke Mekonnen.

On the current world scenario, Lavrov referred to the "collective attempt of the West to slow down the objective historical process, the formation of a just and democratic order, and cling to the elusive prospect of the so-called unipolar world."
From the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, Lavrov further said that Ethiopia maintained a balanced and responsible stance at the United Nations about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
As part of his tour of four African countries, namely Egypt, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and Ethiopia, Lavrov met with high-ranking Ethiopian officials and discussed issues on the international and regional agenda, including bilateral cooperation.

The Russian Foreign Minister commented earlier on the position of African countries on Ukraine, which he said that, although the U.S. is exerting discriminatory pressure, African states adopt a balanced and objective approach to the situation.
According to Lavrov, there is new momentum in relations between Russia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries along with the Asia-Pacific region, West Asia, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
For his part, French President Emmanuel Macron said from Cameroon, on his three-day tour of Africa, that Russia's influence in Africa is a concern for the continent's peoples while vowing that he will "do everything possible so that... this format (of Russian influence) does not spread too far."
