Speaking at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Tajt Ravanchi said that this passivity of the international body has encouraged the Israeli regime to continue its occupation and crimes against the oppressed people of Palestine.

Iran denounced this Monday at the United Nations Security Council, the own body's passive stance on the crimes committed by the Israeli regime against the Palestinian people.

"As long as the Security Council remains passive and silent in the face of these [Israeli] crimes, the rights of the Palestinians will not be achieved," Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations (UN), Mayid Tajt Ravanchi, said on Monday.

Speaking at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Tajt Ravanchi said that this passivity of the international body has encouraged the Israeli regime to continue its occupation and crimes against the oppressed people of Palestine.

As the Persian diplomat denounced, Israel's crimes are fully documented and undeniable; moreover, they are considered “war crimes” under international law, as their perpetrators must be punished without further delay, he added.

In fact, he continued, the UNSC must fulfill its promises stipulated in the UN Charter to maintain international peace and security, as it must hold Israel accountable through all legal means at its disposal.

Tajt Ravanchi also referred to Israel's recent crimes in the occupied Palestinian territories and added that the situation in Palestine has become more tense due to the racist policies and cruel acts of the Zionist regime.

Israel has committed its crimes before the eyes of the international community as "it knows that it will not face any consequences," he said, referring to the Israeli attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque in Al-Quds (Jerusalem).

"The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the recent aggression by the Israeli occupation forces and extremist settlers against Al-Aqsa Mosque during the holy month of Ramadan [...] which has provoked the feelings of Muslims around the world," he said and then called on the international community to take measures to protect this holy site.
