Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra will name actor and former culture minister Salvador del Solar as his new prime minister Monday, three sources said.

Vizcarra has been looking to shake up his government after his approval rating started to slip in recent weeks.
A trained lawyer, del Solar is best known for his roles in Spanish-language films. He served as culture minister for about a year under former president Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, who resigned in a graft scandal a year ago. He also has a master's in International Relations from the University of Syracuse in the United States.
Cesar Villanueva, the previous prime minister, resigned Friday after being in the post for less than a year. According to an Ispos poll in Peru, public approval for Villaneuva had hit new lows — in February, he got a 27 percent approval rating. Vizcarra for his part has also been heading downward in the polls. The main reason given for disapproval is a lack of growth in the economy.

Local media reported earlier Monday that Vizcarra had chosen del Solar as his new prime minister. The prime minister in Peru functions essentially as a chief of staff, or a head of his cabinet.
