Although facing up to 10 years in prison on rape charges, the father of the 20-year-old says his son's six-month sentence "isn't appropriate."

The father of a 20-year-old Stanford student found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman has claimed his son shouldn’t be punished for “20 minutes of action.”

The comments, published in an open letter Sunday, have caused widespread outrage with many lambasting the normalization of rape culture in the U.S.

Brock Allen Turner was found guilty of raping an unconscious 23-year-old woman at a frat party and convicted of three accounts of sexual assault.

Although facing up to 10 years in prison, Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Aaron Persky sentenced Turner Thursday to only six months in a county jail with probation.

Despite the lenient sentence, Brock’s father, Dan A Turner, has argued it “isn’t an appropriate sentence.”

In the open letter, he explains his son’s “life will never be the one he dream(ed) about and worked so hard to achieve.”

“He will never be his happy go lucky self with that easy-going personality and welcoming smile,” it continues.

The father also goes on to lament his son’s loss of appetite and “anxiety, fear and depression” in what the public have decried as a shocking example of institutionalized sexism and misogyny.

The victim, who remains unidentified, explained in her statement that the assault “(is) part of my identity, it has forever changed the way I carry myself, the way I live the rest of my life.”

The online furore has also led to an online protest to have Judge Persky removed from office. It has received nearly 30,000 signatures since it was launched Monday.
