Western Aggression Aimed at Venezuelan Sovereignty: Foreign Minister Arreaza

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza rejected the threats and sanctions issued by the U.S. government, saying that his country is in a struggle between sovereignty and the unilateral intentions of the West.

In an exclusive interview with teleSUR from New York, the diplomat said that Venezuela wants to continue advancing without the interference of great powers such as the United States, demanding that the meddling in Venezuela's internal affairs stop.

Arreaza said he attended the United Nations General Assembly to tell the truth about Venezuela and to let the world know that as a people of peace the South American nation will always insist on the path of dialogue.

He added that Venezuela has the right to develop its own model of democracy and recalled that the country has the support of many people and their governments.

Arreaza said that the most important thing was that the truth of Venezuela was told at the U.N. and that the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries responded against the measures imposed on the country. The Venezuelan diplomat also pointed out that many countries that are part of the U.N. are misinformed about the Venezuelan situation because there is a vicious campaign against the country, including biased media coverage.

He also added that the Venezuelan delegation issued a complaint with the U.N. Human Rights Commissioner for condemning situations that are not real and reiterated that the latest report from the commissioner's office on Venezuela was gathered remotely from Panama and via telephone.
