The body will investigate cases of political violence and it will be led by the ANC President Delcy Rodriguez.

Venezuela's Truth, Justice and Reparation Commission for Victims has officially taken up office in the capital Caracas.

It will investigate cases of political violence including those committed between 2014 and 2017.

The Commission will be led by the National Constituent Assembly President Delcy Rodriguez.

"We are going to the determination of the truth, so that the Venezuelans understand the origin and the illicit cause of the facts of violence that have affected peace and the public tranquility" said Rodriguez.

She also announced the first investigations into the country's political unrest.

Other members of the Commission include the parish priest of the San Francisco church of Caracas, Jose Numa Molina, the Attorney General of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, the ombudsman, Alfredo Ruiz,  as well as Aylin García and Edgar Márquez, members of the Organization of Victims and Families.

Three deputies from the National Assembly will be designated by the political block or group of opinion from the opposition parties.

The Executive Secretariat of the Commission for Truth, Justice, Peace and Public Tranquility will be chaired by Larry Devoe.

The Comission's legal framework was established in a law approved by ANC and it has the power to submit proposals for pardon or amnesty measures to the body as well as request protection for victims.
