The ANC-ratified decision was made following a request issued by the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) on Monday.
The National Constituent Assembly (ANC) of Venezuela approved on Tuesday a decree to lift parliamentary immunity and the continuation of the prosecution of self-proclaimed opposition deputy, Juan Guaido.
During the session held by the full ANC, the legislators made the decision after the request issued by the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ).
The president of the ANC, Diosdado Cabello, read the decree authorizing "the prosecution of the citizen Juan Gerardo Antonio Guaido Marquez (...) in accordance with the provisions of Article 200 of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela".
"The continuation of the trial is formally authorized and that our justice, in accordance with the Constitution and the law, is in charge of applying the mechanisms established in the different criminal procedural codes," he said and ordered the publication of the decree in the Official Gazette and the notification of the same to the TSJ.
The president of the Venezuelan Supreme Court, Maikel Moreno, made the request to the legislative body on Monday when he declared Guaido in contempt of the sentence issued by the Supreme Court on January 29, which established certain prohibitions.
In addition, the magistrate ratified the provisions of the judgment, such as "the prohibition of leaving the country without authorization until the above-mentioned investigation is completed, prohibition of transferring and encumbering the titles of his property, blocking and immobilization of bank accounts or any other financial instrument in Venezuelan territory."
A copy of the TSJ's request was also sent to the country's attorney general, Tarek William Saab, "for the purpose of the continuation of the procedure for the prosecution of senior officials," provided in the regulations of the judicial body.
