Thousands from across Venezuela marched through the capital city of Caracas to support the government on the anniversary of Simon Bolivar's death.

Thousands of Venezuelans poured into the streets of Caracas on Saturday to protest against hoarders and speculators, who they say are responsible for what the government has described as an “economic war” supported by the right-wing opposition.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has praised the demonstration as a "national triumph" of socialism across the country.

"Welcome all the revolutionary forces and the youth, workers, peasants, women, all the country," Maduro said.

State-run television VTV reported several people reached the capital city to take part in the demonstration that started in four points of central Caracas and ended with a rally headed by Maduro in the emblematic Avenida Bolivar.

"Look how #Venezuela paid tribute to Simon Bolivar on 186th anniversary of his physical parting. #Caracas"

Diosdao Cabello, the vice-president of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), said that the march on Saturday is "an exercise of sovereignty and independence,” in a perfect civic-military union.

The Venezuelan government has called the opposition coalition to work together to end the “economic war” that has created shortages of food supplies and other essential products, including medicines. However, an agreement has not been reached so far.

Hardline opponents support the speculation and hoarding as they want to speed up the presidential election and the recall referendum process against Maduro, even if at the expense of the economy and people's lives.

Since 2103, the government of Maduro introduced laws allowing the government to fix prices and dictate profit margins due to the high rate of inflation.
