Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has announced that the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) will carry out military exercises on February 24 and 25 in "defense" of the nation.
"I have ordered the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, in a civil-military union with the people, to carry out the integral multidimensional defense operations of national territory," Maduro said Saturday.
Maduro said the military drills are intended to fine-tune the movements of the armed forces' tanks, missiles and helicopters as part of the nation's defense strategy.
Posting on Twitter, Maduro also said the nation would reject any "foreign imperial boot" attempting to invade Venezuelan territory. "If we want peace, we must prepare to win it," said the president.
Maduro made his statements during a ceremony to commemorate the 30th launch of the Simon Bolivar School Ship, from Vargas State. The crew consists of 174 men and women of the FANB, who are due to take part in this month's Velas Latinoamerica 2018 military drills.
