Venezuela's electoral authority, the CNE, announced Monday that the parliamentary elections will be held Dec. 6, silencing the opposition's speculations that president Nicolas Maduro could suspend the vote.
CNE President Tibisay Lucena said the elections had always been scheduled for this year, adding her team provided all the assistance to the opposition Democratic Unity Roundtable for their internal elections last May.
The governing United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) will hold internal elections next Sunday, Lucena said.
