Fourteen countries released a declaration expressing “deep concern” for alleged “human rights violations” in Venezuela.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez Thursday evening blasted right-wing Latin American leaders, pressured by the United States, who called for suspending the South American country from the Organization of American States.

“Venezuela denounces U.S. designs to impose a new Washington Consensus on our country, through aggression and interference," Rodriguez posted on Twitter. “It has been sufficiently demonstrated that the regional right is in concert with the U.S. Department of State to attack Venezuela.”

On Thursday, 14 countries in the Americas released a joint declaration posted on Mexico's foreign ministry website, expressing “deep concern” for alleged “human rights violations” in the socialist country. The pro-interventionist bloc, led by the U.S. and Mexico, announced their joint position in preparation for calling for a regional vote on Venezuela’s OAS membership.

Sponsoring countries also include Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay.

Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs Luis Videgaray Caso urged his regional counterparts “to not remain indifferent,” Expansion, a CNN partner, reported, adding that the bloc wants to “restore democratic normalcy.”

Rodriguez slammed Caso’s remarks, claiming the Mexican politician is “servile” to U.S. imperialist interests aimed at dividing and conquering the region.

“Chancellor Videgaray builds walls with Latin America instead of defending and serving the sovereign interests and rights of its people,” Rodriguez also posted on Twitter. “He attacked Venezuela to ingratiate himself with his imperial owners. He believes that the Mexican people will forget their betrayal.”

For years, OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro has called for new elections in Venezuela to remove democratically-elected President Nicolas Maduro. Since taking charge of the OAS in 2015, the Uruguayan politician has used the organization to support the violent anti-government campaigns of Henrique Capriles and Leopoldo Lopez.

Almagro has also attended anti-Cuba events held by the U.S. National Endowment for Democracy and the Inter-American Institute for Democracy, which frequently call for the overthrow of Cuba’s government.

An official date for the OAS’ regional vote on Venezuela’s membership has not been announced.
