The wife and mother of imprisoned right-wing politician, Leopoldo Lopez, claimed they were strip-searched when visiting the Ramo Verde facility.

The Venezuelan government released a statement Wednesday rejecting the “unfounded, treacherous and irresponsible” accusations leveled by Paraguay about the supposed mistreatment of two citizens in the Ramo Verde detention facility.

The Foreign Ministry responded to a declaration by the Paraguayan government condemning the “degrading treatment” supposedly suffered by Lilian Tintori and Antonieta Mendoza.

The wife and mother of imprisoned right-wing politician, Leopoldo Lopez, claimed they were strip-searched when visiting the Ramo Verde facility, and were subjected to other indignities.

Venezuelan officials said that they were surprised by the Paraguayan outburst and shocked that they would trust the right-wing denouncers.

“It is out of keeping with the good faith of the Paraguayan Foreign Office to pronounce themselves in a pressurized and prejudiced manner about completely false facts, registered in the agenda of imperial aggression against Venezuela,” the statement read.

“It is completely unacceptable that the public declarations of a person that develops a campaign of defamation against Venezuela and its institutions is assumed to be a valid and undoubtable source,” it continued.

The release went on to accuse the Paraguayan government of aggression by suggesting that a “degrading act against the women or a violation of human rights, without even knowing the existence or not of the accusation against the institutions.”

The statement concluded that the Venezuelan government could take diplomatic measures to respond to the “reproachable” position.
