Venezuela Opposition Leader Antonio Ledezma Gets House Arrest

Venezuelan opposition leader Antonio Ledezma was transferred from jail early Friday morning, beginning a state of enforced house arrest.

The move was announced by his wife through twitter.

"I am informing the country that several minutes ago, surprisingly, SEBIN (Bolivarian National Intelligence Service) returned Antonio to our home," she wrote. 

"He will serve house arrest."

This past Tuesday, the Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela announced that the state of house arrest granted to opposition leaders Leopoldo Lopez and Ledezma were revoked due to a breach of the conditions and on suspicion of escape.

According to the court, the fifth and sixth tribunals of the Metropolitan Area of Caracas had verified Lopez and Ledezma's failure to comply with the conditions of the house arrest.

Ledezma was arrested in February 2015 on charges of conspiracy. After spending two months in the military prison at Ramo Verde, he received a “precautionary measure to substitute freedom” for health reasons. He has not yet been convicted.
