Tamara Adrian, Venezuela's first transwoman member of congress, addressed Argentina's censorship of teleSUR, among other topics.

Just a day after the right-wing Argentine government of Mauricio Macri announced it would be dropping its shares of regional network teleSUR, causing a wave of condemnation, Tamara Adrian, a member of the anti-Chavez opposition in the Venezuelan congress, condemned the move as censorship.

Adrian made the comments to host Ernesto Villegas on teleSUR's interview program “Seven Questions.”

"I don't agree with any form of censorship," Adrian began, stressing that all opinions should be heard, and that media is an essential tool for democratic societies. For Adrian, Macri's move was "a sign of intellectual poverty."

Adrian is Venezuela's first transwoman member of congress, and belongs to the Popular Will party. She considers herself a progressive, and a champion of human rights.

Villegas also asked Adrian, who was assigned male at birth, about her gender transition process, which she detailed, revealing that her transition made her understand the realities of discrimination and sexism that women face.

Concerning Venezuela's marriage equality laws, the former lawyer and activist said that it was of utmost importance that changes be made. She called out all political parties for not having done enough to elevate same-sex couples to a level of equality.

When Villegas challenged her own party's history on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender rights, Adrian added that there are "allies in every party."
