Venezuela is committed to meeting with Colombia to resolve some of the tensions along the border that separates the countries, Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez said Tuesday on national television.
Rodriguez said Colombia needs to accept responsibility for the crimes being committed along the border.
Venezuela has ramped up border operations since four of its soldiers were killed by Colombian paramilitaries. A state of exception was called and soldiers are now patroling the border closely. Some of the state-subsidized goods they have seized, which would have been smuggled to Colombia, will be returned to the Venezuelan people.
Rodriguez stressed that Venezuela experiences a “state of constant agression” along its borders, referring to paramilitary groups prowling the areas.

National Assembly Head Diosdado Cabello also spoke about the issue Tuesday, reaffirming that Venezuela will always be in favor of peace and reiterating Venezuela’s continuing support for the Colombian peace process.
"We play on the side of peace, tranquility, not only for Venezuela but also for Colombia, this government has made many efforts … to work for peace in Colombia, both (Hugo) Chavez and Nicolas Maduro, as the partners to work for peace in Colombia," he said during an extraordinary session of the National Assembly.
