Delcy Rodriguez, Foreign Minister of Venezuela, reported Tuesday that the U.S. government has denied visas to diplomats from her country to attend international events in the U.S.
"I am obliged to report that we have been denied visas to attend multilateral international events," said the foreign minister by telephone to local TV channel VTV.

Rodriguez accused the U.S. of violating international law and the Convention on Consular Relations.
The foreign minister said that the U.S. government has denied visas to Venezuelan diplomats on several occasions in the past.
"This is very serious, we are not applying for visas for events of a bilateral nature, the U.S. can not refuse to grant visas, it is obligated to facilitate them," she said.
The Venezuelan diplomat said her country will submit a formal letter of protest to the U.S. government Wednesday.
Rodriguez also stated that while legitimate government officials are denied visas, opposition leaders with destabilizing plans often receive documents without any problem.
