The Colombia foreign minister arrived in Caracas to start a series of meetings to resolve the border dispute between the two nations.

A Colombian delegation arrived in Caracas, Venezuela Wednesday to begin a series of meetings between the two nations’ foreign ministers over the border situation between them.

The meeting is the result of talks that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos held in Ecuador last Monday when they agreed they would reinstate their ambassadors and investigate the border situation, while working to progressively normalize the border.

The breakthrough comes after weeks of tension between the two countries following Venezuela’s decision to close its border with its neighbor and announce a state of exception in some of its border regions.
