Venezuela Arrests 7 Connected to Drug-Trafficking

The arrests were made following an inspection of a shipping container destined for Kingston Port, Jamaica.

Venezuela's Chief Prosecutor, Tarek William Saab, announced that a drug trafficking ring with intent to transport 111 kilograms of cocaine through Venezuela into Jamaica had been dismantled.

According to the official, seven people connected to the attempted crime were arrested by the Anti-Drug Command of the Bolivarian National Guard, and the prosecutor's office.

Four of the arrested were members of the Bolivarian National Guard, complicit in the attempt to transport the drugs. Another was an official of Bolipuertos, the national port ministry. All were charged with intent to commit a crime and illicit trafficking of narcotic and psychotropic substances.

The arrests were made following an inspection of a shipping container destined for Kingston Port, Jamaica.

In a press conference, William Saab emphasized Venezuela's commitment to fighting drug trafficking, saying that since August 2017, 29.5 tons of various substances have been seized. Furthermore, over 2,000 have been arrested for drug-trafficking related crimes.
