Donald Trump announced a war crazed, hypersonic-weapon-fascinated businessman as the acting Defense Secretary to replace Jim Mattis.

The United States President Donald Trump Sunday said he was replacing Defense Secretary Jim Mattis on Jan. 1 with Deputy Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan in an acting capacity after Mattis resigned over policy differences, and offered to stay in his post for two more months.

A source familiar with the situation told Reuters that Trump was irked by the attention given to Mattis' resignation letter, which implicitly criticized Trump's foreign policies and his treatment of military allies after the president's decision to pull troops out of Syria.

He told Trump in a letter that he was leaving because “you have a right to have a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours.”

Trump announced Shanahan's appointment in a tweet, calling the former Boeing Co executive "very talented".

Shanahan, a businessman, has been deputy defense secretary since July 2017. His tweets and interviews suggest that he is a warmonger who wants lethal, hypersonic weapons, and the establishment of a space force for the U.S.

In one of his interviews with Defense News in October, Shanahan said, “Too often we focus on process, or budget, or level of effort. The Pentagon should focus on outcomes and outputs — our performance. This focus on performance should drive us to field unmatched lethality, execute on our modernization plans and achieve this affordably.”

A quick glance at his Twitter account will show his hunger for war and destruction.

While the whole world is trying to reduce arms and wars, Trump's new acting Defense Secretary is clearly fascinated with new types of weapons and new areas of militarization, like space.
