A toxicology report confirmed Woods had several prescription drugs and traces of THC in his system when he was arrested.

U.S. golf champion Tiger Woods pleaded guilty to reckless driving on Friday and was sentenced to one year's probation after being found by police slumped at the wheel of his parked car near his Florida home in May.

The 41-year-old, who is one of the most successful and highly paid professional golfers of all time, will be required to complete a drug treatment programme and undergo drug testing as part of his plea bargain.

Woods was arrested when police discovered him collapsed at the wheel of his Mercedes-Benz. Police footage showed the athlete swaying and slurring his words as he was addressed by officers.

A toxicology report confirmed Woods had several prescription drugs as well as the active ingredient in marijuana in his system, but alcohol was not found to be a factor.

The golfer, whose extramarital affairs had already propelled him onto the front pages and stripped him of bothi his wife and various sponsorship deals, claimed his condition was caused by a reaction to medications he was taking following back surgery.

Woods has already completed 50 hours of community service since his arrest. If he finishes the program, the reckless driving charge will be wiped from his record, said Florida Circuit Judge Sandra Bosso-Pardo in court.

"This particular plea agreement has no jail time," Judge Bosso-Pardo noted during the sentencing. "However, if you violate your probation in any significant way, I could revoke your probation and sentence you to jail for 90 days. Is that understood?"

Woods replied: "Yes."
