UNICEF is working to get children left without access to education because of the earthquake, back to learning.

More than 280 schools have been damaged by the earthquake that hit Ecuador on April 16, resulting in about 120,000 children being left without education, UNICEF announced Thursday.

UNICEF is working with the government to ensure provisions be provided so that children can get back to learning. They are especially working in the worst affected areas of Muisne, Pedernales, Jama,  Portoviejo, Manta and Chone. Their plan is to install 50 temporary spaces for 20,000 children. They will also distribute 700 “school in a box” kits that will help benefit 60,000 children.

UNICEF says it will need about $23 million over the next three months in order to address children’s immediate needs in the areas of water, sanitation, education, child protection, health and nutrition.
