On Saturday, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres urged the international community to help Hurricane Irma-ravaged Barbuda.
"The UN is deeply committed to helping the people of Barbuda, but this is not enough, the international community needs to be mobilized," Guterres said during his visit to the island.
Guterres met with people who were displaced and devastated by the hurricane as well as Prime Minister Gaston Brown.

"The international community has a great responsibility. First, faster action is needed to keep climate change from continuing to accelerate dramatically; second, we must help these people with humanitarian and reconstruction assistance," the secretary general added.
Guterres spoke to the importance of more effective contingency recovery plan.
"It is necessary to create innovative financial mechanisms to help countries like this to recover and their people to rebuild their lives. This is an obligation of the international community because they are suffering the effects of climate change, to which they have not contributed," he explained.
