United Nations Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura said on Thursday that humanitarian aid has reached 110,000 of the 480,000 people that urgently need it in Syrian besieged areas.
He considered that if the cease-fire is respected, scheduled to go into effect on Friday at midnight, it will effectively accelerate humanitarian aid access to besieged areas and other difficult areas in Syria.
Mistura also informed that UN will name a date on Friday for Syria's warring parties to return to the negotiating table for a second round of talks.
The diplomat abruptly aborted a first round of talks on Feb. 3 and urged countries in the International Syria Support Group, led by the United States and Russia, to do more preparatory work.
Nearly five years of armed conflict has claimed the lives of more than 470,000 people in Syria and displaced millions.
