WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been in the Ecuadorean Embassy in London since 2012, after he received political asylum.

Ecuador's Foreign Minister Guillaume Long said Wednesday that he suspects British intelligence to have spied on Julian Assange in the London-based Ecuadorean Embassy where has received asylum for the past four years.

"There are cameras everywhere, it is one of the most spied (on) embassies in the world," said Long during a United Nations Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva.

"You need to be lucky to make a phone call from inside the embassy. Internet is constantly interrupted. Everything is hacked. It's a really hostile environment every day for Assange," he added.

The Ecuadorean foreign minister went on to criticize the U.K. for demanding other countries respect resolutions on human rights, while hypocritically ignoring the very same resolutions.

In February, the U.N. Working Group on Arbitrary Detention found that Assange was the victim of arbitrary detention, but both Swedish and British authorities have refused to comply with the ruling by rescinding the arrest warrant.

"It is a clear example of their double standards, which Ecuador denounces," said Long.

Long recently said the U.K. continues to refuse to cooperate with Ecuador on Assange's asylum case while also expressing concern over the Swedish whistleblower's health.

"He doesn’t have access to good medical care, we are very worried. After four years, you can see a clear deterioration," said Long.

Assange took shelter in 2012 in the Ecuadorean Embassy to avoid a possible extradition to the U.S. from Sweden, where he is wanted over alleged sexual crimes, which he says are an excuse to arrest him over his whistleblowing campaign.

In 2010, Assange’s organization WikiLeaks published hundreds of thousands of U.S. military documents and diplomatic cables, leaking classified information that exposed the extent of U.S. military abuses committed in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
