“The Caspian Sea fleet has no ships capable of launches of ballistic missiles,” a Russian Defense spokesperson said.

Russian officials have rejected accusations by Turkey that Russia was responsible for an attack on a Doctors Without Borders hospital in Syria that killed scores of people a day earlier.

A Ministry of Defense spokesperson, Igor Konashenkov, said Tuesday that Russia has no ships in the Caspian Sea fleet that could have hit the Syrian hospital in Idlib province.

“The Caspian Sea fleet has no ships capable of launches of ballistic missiles,” Konashenkov told reporters.

The comments came in response to accusations leveled by Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu during a visit to Kiev. Davutoglu accused Russia of committing a "war crime," saying Russia had launched a ballistic missile from the Caspian Sea and hit a medical facility and schools in the city of Idlib in northwestern Syria,

"We categorically do not accept such statements, the more so as every time those making these statements are unable to prove their unfounded accusations in any way," President Vladimir Putin's spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters during a conference call.

Meanwhile Syria blamed the United States for killing civilians in the bombing.

“American warplanes destroyed it,” Syria’s Ambassador to Moscow Riad Haddad said of the bombed hospital in an interview with Russian state television channel Rossiya 24. “Russian warplanes had nothing to do with any of it — the information that has been gathered will completely back that up.”
