Turmeric has long been recognized for its medicinal properties, particularly for heart, glucose, and cholesterol.

Among its many benefits, turmeric curcumin is embodied with cancer fighting properties, researchers from Chile’s Advanced Center for Chronic Diseases (ACCDiS) said.

A recent study of nanoemulsion- a mixture of fatty substances and water- shows the spice prevents the spread and metastasis of carcinogens, scientists said during this week’s the Fundacion Imagen de Chile.

"One of the most important advantages of this formula is that it takes advantage of the anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties of this substance, which are not adequately achieved by the simple consumption of turmeric due to its insolubility in water, poor absorption, and instability," said Felipe Oyarzun, one of the four case researchers.

Researchers combined curcumin with nano-vehicles to ensure cancer cells were completely eradicated, as well provide extra protection and promotion of therapeutic effects.

Curcumin is a fragile molecule and, when administered without a 'vehicle', it can quickly destabilize, said Oyarzun.

Lab results from animal testing showed that increasing the dosage by 25 percent after tumor removal prevented further growths, a procedure- the scientist- assured was completely safe.

"We used it to remove a major tumor... but it can also be applied orally, cream, liquid form, etc," Oyarzun said, reporting that 70 percent of animal test subjects registered cancer free post treatment.

Curcumin’s powdery composition allows for easy and affordable transportation, which on reception can be combined with water for effective cancer treatment.

Constanza Cea, executive director of Imagen de Chile, said, “Generating a possible solution to cancer metastasis in Chile is a tremendous contribution that shows how in our country we are able to contribute to stopping an illness that afflicts people all over the world.”

For centuries, turmeric-curcumin has been recognized for its medicinal properties. Among its many benefits, the plant can be used to support cardiovascular and joint health, regulate blood cholesterol and sugar levels, weight loss, nourish skin and healthy aging, as well as improve brain functionality.
