Trump insisted that the NFL ban kneeling during the national anthem.

The U.S. president, Donald Trump, has continued to attack NFL players and owners who chose to kneel during the national anthem.

“NFL has all sorts of rules and regulations. The only way out for them is to set a rule that you can't kneel during our National Anthem!" he wrote in a message on Twitter.

Trump's comments come as members from an increasing number of NFL teams, including the Arizona Cardinals, Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Ravens, and New England Patriots, have decided to either kneel or lock arms and bow their heads bowed during the national anthem.

On Friday, Trump wrote on Twitter: "Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now, out, he’s fired.’”

In response, several NFL owners participated in the pre-game protests on Sunday.

Hillary Clinton said Trump's latest remarks are a deliberate attempt to rally Trump’s conservative base.

The NFL protest is an attempt to highlight ongoing police violence against Black people in the United States.

NFL player Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid began the protest movement before an August 2016 game at the height of tensions over police brutality and racism.

Kaepernick explained the reason for the protest: “I’m not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color.”

Reid added in a NY Times op-ed today, “We chose to kneel because it’s a respectful gesture … Our posture was like a flag flown at half-mast to mark a tragedy.”
