Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad held a meeting with an Iraqi official in Damascus ahead of the U.N. special envoy's arrival in the capital city. 

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad held a meeting with Iraq's top security official in Damascus on Sunday (April 14).

Assad's meeting with Iraq's National Security Adviser Faleh al-Fayyad focused on regional and bilateral issues, according to SANA news agency.

Syrian ambassador to Iraq Sattam al-Dandah was also present in the meeting.

The meeting comes one day after the arrival in Damascus of U.N. special envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen who is in town in preparation for a fresh round of talks.

The new round of Syrian talks that will take place in Kazakhstan's capital, Nour Sultan, on April 25-26.
