British scientist Stephen Hawking backs Jeremy Corbyn for prime minister.
According to the world-renowned astrophysicist, the conservatives would be a "disaster" for public services. “I’m voting Labour because another five years of Conservative government would be a disaster for the NHS (National Health Service), the police and other public services," he said, after a meeting with Cambridge Member of Parliament Daniel Zeichner.
The cosmologist is a lifelong Labour Party supporter, who endorsed local representative Zeichner in a losing 2015 bid. “I was delighted to meet Professor Hawking again and receive his support for my re-election and a Labour government," Zeichner said.
Hawking endorsed the opposition leader following a controversial analysis of him. “I regard Corbyn as a disaster," he declared. "His heart is in the right place and many of his policies are sound, but he has allowed himself to be portrayed as a left-wing extremist.”
