St. Vincent and the Grenadines Joins Venezuelan Government Talks with Opposition

Along with the Caribbean nation, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Chile, Paraguay, and Mexico will participate in the talks.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines became the sixth and final member of the delegation of accompanying countries between the Venezuelan government and opposition sectors as the international ministers arrive in the Dominican Republic ahead of two days of meetings.

Venezuelan Communication and Information Minister Jorge Rodriguez announced the Caribbean nation’s decision to accept President Nicolas Maduro’s invitation to join the team of mediators participating in the talks to take place in the Dominican Republic Dec. 1 and 2.

Along with St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Chile, Paraguay, and Mexico will participate in the talks.

The Foreign Minister of the Dominican Republic Miguel Vargas told the press Tuesday that representatives from business, academic and human rights sectors of Venezuela will also participate in the meetings.

According to Vargas, the delegations will address six important issues but the National Constituent Assembly will not be one of the topics discussed during the two days.

Opposition leader Julio Borges said that 20 representatives will be present at the talks that start Friday, adding that he is calling on the international community to end sanctions against Venezuela and allow medicine and food into the country.

Meanwhile, Maduro, speaking at a celebration of the 97th anniversary of the nation's air force said that “in 2018, revolutionary forces will expand and peace will be consolidated.” He added that Venezuela will “recuperate from and surpass its economic problems.”
