The move will only affect August sales, while the measure will  be reassessed in September.

On an unprecedented move, Spanish government paralyzed the sales of weapons to Israel, due to the slaughter in Gaza, move that was praised this Tuesday by Amnesty International.

According to Spanish media, the decision of Mariano Rajoy’s Administration was taken last Thursday, during a cabinet meeting, the same day the Foreign Affairs Ministry condemned the bombing of a Palestinian school in the Gaza Strip.

Worldwide NGO Amnesty International applauded Spain´s decision to stop selling arms to Israel and recently said that the United States should do the same.

"The U.S. government must immediately end its ongoing deliveries of large quantities of arms to Israel, which are providing the tools to commit further serious violations of international law in Gaza," the international human rights organization said in a statement.

The NGOs call came after reports that the Pentagon had approved the immediate transfer of grenades and mortar rounds to the Israeli armed forces from a U.S. arsenal in Israel, and follows a shipment of 4.3 tons of U.S.-manufactured rocket motors, which arrived in the Israeli port of Haifa on July 15.

The U.S. is enabling grave abuses to be committed against civilians in Gaza.

“The U.S. government is adding fuel to the fire by continuing its supply of the type of arms being used by Israel’s armed forces to violate human rights," AI said and criticized Washington for enabling grave abuses to be committed against civilians in Gaza.

More than 1,880 people, mostly civilians, have died since the israeli forces launched a disproportionate and genocidal offensive against the Gaza Strip, under the argument that it was combating Hamas. However, more than 80 percent of the victims cause by Israel are civilians, including more than 430 children.

The offensive included missiles attacks and a ground invasion, which entered today into a halt after a 72-hour long cease-fire was initiated this morning at 8:00 a.m. local time. The truce was promoted by the Egyptian government.

The Palestinians also attacked Israel cities with handmade rockets. However, just three civilians and nearly 65 soldiers died during the Hamas counteroffensive.

The measure by Spain will only affect the sales of arms during August and the government has planned to reconvene in September to reevaluate whether the move, according to officials of the Spanish cabinet.

Last year Spain sold US$6.5 million euros in weapons -such as handguns, grenades and military ATV’S- to Israel army, one of the most advanced ones in the world.

The U.K. government migh consider freezing weapons contracts with Israel.

British officials last Thursday revealed that the government of Prime Minister, David Cameron, might review the pending weapons contracts with Israel, after it bombed one school in Gaza.

According to a government document revealed last week by the House of Commons, pending weapons contracts of United Kingdom with Israel total US$12 million.
