Costa Rican authorities are now working to find out if the notorious drug trafficker, responsible for the deaths of some 34,000 people, is in the country.

It was one of the most high profile prison-breaks in history. But after just under two months on the run, it looks like Mexican cartel leader Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman might have been located - by a tweet from his own son.

Jesus Alfredo Guzman, the drug lord’s son, posted a photo to the social media site Twitter, captioned, "Comfortably  here, you already know with whom dad bull,”  with the geolocation tag indicating that he is in Costa Rica.

While the faces in the photo are blocked out, it seems to show El Chapo in a restaurant.

Costa Rican authorities are now working to find out if the notorious drug trafficker, responsible for the deaths of some 34,000 people, is in the country.

In July, El Chapo escaped from high security Mexican jail for the second time, through a hole in his cell that led to an elaborate handmade tunnel.

Officials confirmed that oxygen tanks as well as various tools and objects used for construction were found along the way - including a motorcycle that is believed to have been used to clear away the dirt from the building process.

With the extreme lengths that Guzman went to secure freedom - there is a US$3.8 million reward offered for assistance in his capture - could it be that his son has given the game away simply by forgetting to remove the location tag?

The younger Guzman, 29, posts regularly on social media about his father, but this is the first time he has given clues as to his whereabouts.
