As international negotiators and representatives gathered in Poland, for the COP24 U.N. Climate Change Conference, thousands of protestors gathered in several French cities as well as Katowice to demand politicians implement tougher environmental measures.
The COP24 is considered a follow-up to the Paris Agreement, negotiated in 2015, and is aimed at producing a rule book on how to enforce action to limit further warming of the planet by the end of the year.
At noon, demonstrators, accompanied by a heavy police presence, took to the streets of Katowice to demand an agreement that will prevent temperatures rising by more than 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Thousands of French protestors marched in Paris to 'claim the climate' in a demonstration demanding that French authorities take action to reach the goal set in Paris in 2015 of limiting warming to "well below" a rise of 2°C above pre-industrial times while "pursuing efforts" for the tougher 1.5° goal.
