Sanders Overcomes 53 Point Deficit to Take Lead in Wisconsin

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has a 4 point lead over rival Hillary Clinton among voters in Wisconsin, according to a Marquette Law School poll.

Of those polled, 49.2 percent said they will support Sanders in next week's primary, while 44.9 percent will choose the former secretary of state, with 96 delegates at stake in the April 5 contest.

Sanders scored resounding caucus victories in Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Utah and Washington last week, and recent polls show he has gained significant ground on Clinton, who pundits expected to have all but sewn up the presidential nomination by now.

Numerous polls taken in Wisconsin show Clinton was comfortably beating Sanders in the state, even enjoying a 53 point lead over him back in October, according to a previous Marquette survey.

By last week Sanders had clawed her lead down to six points before taking the lead himself.

Sanders needs to win just under 57 percent of the delegates available in the remaining primaries to have a shot at the nomination.

Marquette also questioned Republicans on who they will vote for in the April 5 primary, with 40 percent backing Ted Cruz followed by 30 percent for Donald Trump 21 percent for John Kasich.
