In a tweet, Waters encourages participation in march against intervention in Venezuela, saying the '1%' want to 'PLUNDER THEIR OIL.'
Musician/activist Roger Waters is calling on people to act against the ongoing United States coup d'etat of the elected Venezuelan government by taking part in an ‘emergency demonstration’ in front of the U.S. Mission to the United Nations (USUN) located in New York City Monday.
Waters sent out a tweet early Monday morning encouraging participation in a planned march in front of the U.N. building in order to stop the economic coup in process and the possible U.S. military intervention in Venezuela on the part of the U.S. and its anti-Venezuela allies.
“THIS IS TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,” wrote the famed former Pink Floyd musician on his Twitter account Monday, referring to a protest announcement at the USUN organized by the December 12 Movement.
In all caps, Roger wrote: “STOP THIS LATEST USG (United States government) INSANITY, LEAVE THE VENEZUELAN PEOPLE ALONE. THEY HAVE A REAL DEMOCRACY, STOP TRYING TO DESTROY IT SO THE 1% CAN PLUNDER THEIR OIL.”
“US HANDS OFF #VENEZUELA! #NICOLASMADURO #STOPTRUMPSCOUPINVENEZUELA,” added the political activist in the same tweet.

As late as Sunday, Feb. 3 United States President Donald Trump said that military intervention in the South American country was "an option," and U.S. Vice President Mike Pence said in a speech at the Iglesia Doral Jesus Worship Center in Doral, Florida on Feb. 1 that "the United States will continue to exert all diplomatic and economic pressure" on Venezuela.
Members of Russia's Foreign Ministry say the international community should help Venezuela rather than implementing a method of "destructive meddling" in Venezuelan affairs.
The December 12 Movement is a self-described “black human rights organization based in New York City” that organizes “political actions leading toward local and national mass mobilizations on racism, self-determination, reparations, quality health care, housing, criminal justice, and education.” The demonstration is set to take place at 3:00 p.m. on Feb. 4 at the USUN.
