More than 1,000 people from LGBTQI communities marched through the streets of Havana on Saturday in a proud display of their sexual and gender identities. The march was led by the Cuban president’s daughter Mariela Castro, who is the director of the National Center of Sexual Education (Cenesex) and co-organizer of the VIII Cuban Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.
The march is part of a larger campaign to raise awareness about and promote the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex, or LGBTI, people in the country.
