Puigdemont has proposed to the Government of Rajoy becoming president of the Catalan Government in exchange for his return to Spain to attend court voluntarily.

The former president of the Catalan Government, Carles Puigdemont, made a proposal to the Government of Mariano Rajoy on Monday, about his return to Spain with the condition of being invested as president of the Generalitat.

According to political sources in Catalonia, Rajoy has not spoken negatively about the proposal. However, the Spanish portal "El Confidencial" argues that the Spanish government has not even considered such offer.

The Supreme Tribunal has maintained its position regarding the return of Puigdemont stating that if he steps into Spain he will be detained immediately.

Puigdemont is staying in Belgium along with other members of the Government because the General Prosecutor of Spain filed a complaint against the former president for committing crimes of rebellion such as embezzlement and sedition.
