The latest accolade for the composer, rapper, writer, and actor of Puerto Rican heritage on San Juan’s iconic Ashford Avenue comes just over two weeks after Miranda performed his last show as Alexander Hamilton, the lead role in Hamilton, which he wrote and composed. The artist will now be working on different projects, including a new sequel to “Mary Poppins.”

“For us, it is great news that Lin-Manuel Miranda will join us on the Walk as an international artist who has given Puerto Rico great pride because of his success with Hamilton,” founder and president of the Board of Puerto Rico’s Walk of Fame, Santiago Villar, said in a statement upon the announcement of the new star. “It’s an honor and joy that he has accepted our invitation to be present when we reveal his star.”

Before “Hamilton,” winner of the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album, Miranda composed and performed in the 2008 Broadway musical “In The Heights,” which also won the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album. The artist has also won three Tony Awards, a MacArthur “Genius” Award, and a Pulitzer Prize for drama, among other accolades.

Miranda, who was born and raised in New York to Puerto Rican parents, recently collaborated with Jennifer Lopez on the song “Love Make the World Go Round” to commemorate the victims of the massacre in the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida. Many of the 49 victims of the mass shooting were Puerto Rican.

The artist has also been critical of the U.S. failure to deal with Puerto Rico's crippling US$73 billion debt crisis and urged U.S. Congress to take action to restructure the debt.

According to Miranda’s Twitter account, he took a break from his current vacation after leaving the cast of Hamilton to pay a visit to the island.

The Walk of Fame ceremony will take place at 4:30 p.m. local time on Puerto Rico’s Ashford Avenue in San Juan. Other honorees on the walk include singers Ricky Martin, Chayanne, and Lucecita Benitez, actors Miriam Colon and Roselyn Sanchez, and musician Rafael Ithier.
