The police chief of the Boaco Department, in central Nicaragua, was fatally shot late Wednesday outside his home, local media reported on Thursday.

Buenaventura Miranda was found dead inside his car, in a residential neighborhood of Bocao City, just after neighbors reported hearing several shots, the murderer has not yet been identified.
The deputy police chief Francisco Diaz said a team of forensic experts have been deployed at the crime scene in order to investigate the case.
"The police chief was shot dead shortly before midnight on Wednesday by a hooded gunmen who intercepted him when he was in his truck, that's the preliminary official version," Diaz said.
Diaz added that police will give more details in coming hours. No suspects have been identified, he added.
